APPLESAUCE DOG TREATS

HEALTHY HOMEMADE APPLESAUCE PET TREATS

This batch of homemade dog treats (30 large dog biscuits) cost roughly $3.20

The essential ingredients: applesauce; one can of peas, eggs, cinnamon; coconut oil; whole wheat flour; honey; organic chicken broth.

Ok, lets start with 5 cups of flour.  I know, it only shows 4 cups in the glass, but you will definitely need to add more flour.

Go ahead...Pour it into the bowl.

Take those two eggs; beat them with either a fork or a spoon:

Add 1/4 cup of Coconut oil

Throw it into the microwave.  Remember to remove the glass jar!!!!!!

Now, open up a can of peas.

Drain the can into your sink.

Add 1/2 TBS of salt

Add all the ingredients together in the bowl.

Add 1/4 cup of cinnamon and pour into the bowl.

Yep, definitely add the cinnamon to the mixture.  Dogs love it.

Now, Add 1 cup of unsweetened applesauce.

Pour it into the bowl..

Can't make the Applesauce dog biscuits without the honey!
1/4 cup should do the trick.

Pour the honey into the bowl.

Chicken broth.  You can substitute beef broth if you like.
1 and a half cups of chicken broth..

Heat the broth in a sauce pan until warm.

Pour the warm chicken broth into the bowl..

Now...Start mixing.  Just an FYI..Wash your hands before you thrust them into the bowl.

Well, remember what I said earlier about needing more flour.  Yep, the mixture was far too sticky so I had to add yet another 2 cups of Whole Wheat Flour.

Yep, that looks better..

Cut out some parchment paper and line your cookie tins.

Time to start rolling out the dough.  You may want to throw some extra flour onto the parchment paper to make it easier to roll.

Roll flat.  About 1/2 inch thick.

Time to cut into pieces.  I used a pizza cutter. Spray the pizza cutter with some Pam to prevent sticking.

The Bourban is for the cook.....It was definitely 5:00 somewhere!!!

Top off the dog treats with some honey.
1/4 cup did the trick.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and place the trays into your oven.

Cook for roughly 45 minutes or until brown and hardened.

Let them cool for 10 minutes and place them onto a plate.

Not only are these treats delicious and healthy for your pets, but they cost a lot less than the average $10.00 bag of store bought treats.  I recently visited a pet store the other bag and took a gander at the so-called pet treats.  You may be surprised to learn what they fill them with...For Example:

  • ground wheat
  • corn gluten
  • soybean meal
  • (preserved with BHA?? )  What is BHA?
  • phosphoric acid
  • sorbic acid
  • calcium propionate
  • corn gluten meal

And the lists goes on and on with chemicals and fillers.
