HEALTHY PET TREAT RECIPES

PEANUT BUTTER FRUIT TREATS

AVERAGE COST FOR 30 BONES: $2.75

This recipe is very simply do and will only take roughly an hour from start to finish.  The main ingredients are: Whole wheat flour, eggs, bananas and peaches, salt, peanut butter, coconut oil, chicken broth, shredded cheese, cinnamon and one bag of bacon bits.

Let's start from the beginning:

Add one banana and three or four slices of frozen peach slices into a cup.  (you can, of course substitute apples, or carrots, etc.)

Add two large tablespoons of coconut oil together with the fruit.

Add 1/4 cup of chicken broth (or beef broth)

Mix everything together with a blender or a juicer

blend until smooth

Now comes the difficult part of making these healthy dog treats; keeping your countertops and floors clean, especially if your spouse is a pig in the kitchen!

put 3-4- cups of whole wheat flour into a mixing bowl.

I started with just 3 cups but, by the end,  after I had added all the materials together, I probably ended up adding closer to 5 cups of flour.

had to add just a bit more:

Add one teaspoon of salt

two eggs.

Add 1 cup of shredded cheese (I chose Colby Jack, but its really up to you and whatever cheese that you may find in your fridge)  I don't suggest using Blue Cheese or any other smelly cheese to this recipe.

in case you need visual directions...crack the eggs; beat them; add the cheese and Voila!!!

add two tablespoons of cinnamon.

add one bag of bacon bits to the recipe:  Hey, who doesn't love bacon!!!

Now we get messy:  I probably used 5, maybe 6 or was it 8 tablespoons of Peanut Butter.

gently place the peanut butter into your microwave.  Please Don't leave the jar of peanut butter in the microwave.  It is for visual purposes only..    microwave on high for about 30 seconds or until soft.

ok, we're almost finished.  Grab some chicken or beef broth.  I used around 1 cup of chicken broth.

place the broth in a sauce pan and heat for about 2 -4 minutes.

Now add the melted peanut butter along with the luke warm broth into the mixing bowl and stir.  I know it shows that I used a wooden spoon, but to be honest, I used my grubby paws to mix everything together.

You may need to add a few tablespoons of flour to the mixture depending on its consistency.  This is now dough and dough needs to be rolled flat.  I found out that my wife had given away our rolling pin so I improvised with a wine bottle.

Place the dough onto some parchment paper and roll it until 1/2 inch thick.  Once again, it really depends on how thick you want to make the bones.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.  Cut out the bones; place them onto baking pans and throw them into the oven.

Bake for around 20-30 minutes (depending on your oven); or until brown and hardened.

Let cool and place pet treats onto a plate:

for visual effects only, I placed the entire batch onto the floor for my dog, Dracula to smell...

I started making these recipes to combat all the carcinogenic pet treats that proliferate the shelves inside your favorite pet store.  After reading all the ingredients and fillers that the so called healthy pet manufacturers put into your pet treats, I decided to create my own recipes and extend the life of my pet. I try to only use ORGANIC ingredients and very little sugar. I personally sample every pet treat before feeding it to my beloved dog, Dracula.  Won't lie to you, although the pet treats are healthier and smell delicious; they taste like crap to the human palate.

All the puppies are sitting for a healthy homemade treat.

Elvis my dog.  He was 14 years old when he died (January 11, 2016)  He was a rescue dog (half lab, half Chow mix)  He loved eating bacon.  If I knew then what I know now, I would NEVER have fed him that fake red bacon treats that they sell in pet stores across the country.
